Joliesse Shiraz Rosé Offers a Spalsh of Summer Sun
SAN FRANCISCO, August 2003-Joliesse is introducing an innovative 2002 Shiraz Rosé to its sun-kissed line of California wines. Released earlier this year, this limited edition wine is the only widely distributed Shiraz Rosé in the United States.
This unique rosé is inspired by the winemaking traditions of Tavel, a small village in the southern Rhône Valley of France known for its exceptionally fresh, concentrated rosés. The richly colored Joliesse Shiraz Rosé shares this popular style, but while Tavel rosés are bone dry, the former is an off-dry wine, giving it a liveliness that is distinctly Californian. "It's an exciting wine that captures the essence of California's history-exploring new frontiers and seeking fresh ideas," says Jean-Charles Boisset, president of Boisset America, which owns the Joliesse brand.
Another characteristic that distinguishes it from Tavel wines is the varietal composition. This Shiraz Rosé gets nearly all of its fruit from the Shiraz grape, not a blend of regional grapes. Up to nine varietals can be used to blend Tavel rosés, in which Grenache is usually the predominant grape.
"We selected the Shiraz grape for the intense color and flavor that it produces," comments Boisset. "It is a deep, coral pink, which is more vibrant in color than most rosés. And the refreshing strawberry and cherry flavors appeal to a wide variety of palates-from people who are new to wine to connoisseurs looking for a fun wine to bring to a summer picnic."
The Shiraz Rosé is approximately 98% California Shiraz with 0.8 percent residual sugar. The suggested retail price is $10. Production is approximately 3,500 cases.
Joliesse is produced by Boisset America, an importer and supplier of French and California wines. A family-owned business with roots in Burgundy, the company seeks to bring its French winemaking tradition and expertise to the United States.
